The Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Harp Society is joining again with the Allegheny Historic Preservation Society to present former Royal Harpist Claire Jones, this time with her percussionist husband Chris Marshall in the first North American performance of the C2 Duo! Below is a summary of the weekend’s activities.
Friday, April 25th, 3:00 p.m – 9:00 p.m. : Private lessons with Claire : Chapter Vice-President Suzanne Hershey is graciously opening her home and providing a harp for Claire to give lessons. 30-minute lessons are $40; 60-minute, $80.
Saturday, April 26th, 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. : Harpercussion Festival : At Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3319 West Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15216, we’ll be having a full day of harp and percussion events!
9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. : Virginia Harp Center : The Virginia Harp Center will be bringing a truckload of harps, music, and accessories for area harpists to see and play! Click here to print the coupon for a 10% discount on your VA Harp Center purchase!
9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. : Master Class with Claire : As she did last year, Claire will again conduct a master class open to all levels of students.
12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. : Lunch Break
1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. : Harpercussion Workshop : Claire and Chris will be conducting a two-part workshop designed especially for us! In the first hour, Chris will work with percussionists, analyzing rhythms from different styles of world music and using them as building blocks for creating new grooves for pop recording sessions and cinematic loops. Separately, Claire will discuss with harpists the best ways to warm up before a performance or practice session, and how to make practicing more effective and productive. After a break for participants to come together, both Claire and Chris will lead everyone in an exploratory journey through the world of arranging a piece of music for harp and percussion. Time permitting, all participants will stage a performance of the piece. The cost has been discounted to only $10!
